Benefits of Pinterest in the classroom

In today's society there are many social medias that people use everyday and Pinterest has quickly become one of them. Pinterest is a online bulletin board that allows the users to "pin" links to things that involve their interest. This is also a very cool way for teachers to find ideas for a classroom such as decorations, lesson plans, and games for the students. Some specific examples of these things are: group collaboration, party planning, research assignments, classroom idea boards, and college planning.

As an aspiring teacher, this semester I was assigned to make a lesson plan off of a Arkansas Curriculum Framework. I also had to create a pinterest board that provided pins that were original and re pinned on information that pertained to my lesson plan and the link is https://www.pinterest.com/valentine8992/ed-tech-spring-2016/.  After completing the assignment in the correct format, I was supposed to complete the work as if I were the student. The framework I choose was a 4th grade science subject covering the Arkansas regions and the resources they contain such as fishing, hunting, . The assignment had to be completed by using a technological tool. I had the students pick from three different power point creators and the one I personally choose was Prezi.com the link is https://prezi.com/dh36jxp96rjl/arkansas039s-natural-resources/. I will know show the steps it took in me making my presentation.

Step One: I signed into Prezi and picked a cool layout that I thought would go with the subject of the assignment.  I typed my title and added a picture of all the natural resources that can be found in Arkansas.

Step two: This is my second slide that presents the region of Arkansas that I choose to name major resources from. I found all my information on this area at ozarkmountainregion.com.

Step 3: Is my first area The Buffalo Nation River that provides many resources and what the resources that are found there.

Step 4: Is Norfolk lake and it is another large area that provides the Ozark mountains with many beneficial resources to the state that I listed below.

Step 5: Is Bull Shoals and the resources that are provided there. Bull shoals has crystal clear waters and it attracts divers.

Step 6: The last major resource in the Northern part of the state of Arkansas is the White River. This area mainly provides a fly fishing resource, that I showed a picture of below.

Social media: how does it affect our mental health and well-being?
http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/275361.php?page=2

Social media is a giant part of Americans everyday world, statistics show that 1 out of 4 people use some sort of social media site. I myself am guilty of having many social media sites on my phone such as facebook, instagram, and snapchat which I check at least two times a day. In this article, which I provided a link to above explains the positive and negatives of social networking on society today. The first negative given is that social media can become addictive, which is why myself and others feel the need to check their news feed and notifications often. Researchers explained that those who update statues or post pictures are more than likely to get supportive comments or likes, and this positive reinforcement can cause a person to become addicted and it is hard for them to just stop posting. As a 24 year old female I can completely relate to this explanation, because like most I enjoy getting positive attention on the things that I post. Before reading this article I had never really thought about why I like to post pictures, check my news feed, or share my thoughts until now. I know realize that I am one of the many that is considered to be addicted to social media sites. Also surveys show that over 50% of people's behavior changes when using social media and most admit that it the behavior is negative. Some people have claimed that social media gives them a sense of worry and restlessness after logging on to their social media accounts. Studies have also shown that it can effect how people interact face to face. Personally I have felt negative and positive feelings after checking my social medias...depending on the day or what I may have seen while looking on my different social media apps. But overall the biggest negative to social media is cyber bullying which usually occurs with teenagers but has been known to happen to adults. I have had my facebook account for about 8 years and over that time I have went from a teenager to a young adult. Looking back over the years I remember cyber bullying happening to many of my friends and peers. I personally have never had to experience this awful act but watching it happen to others made me realize at a young age it is nothing to take lightly.

The Positive Impact Of Social Networking Sites On Society

Now that we have went over all the negatives of social media, I think we should go over some of the positives. Social media is a great place to keep up with friends and distant family members. Most people, including myself have hundreds of friends on social media and being able to simply check it anytime of the day on your phone keeps it easy to know what is going on in their lives. The older I get life gets more busy and time flies by, so I like having my social media sites to check on my friends in a fast easy way. Not only is social media good for communicating with friends and family but it is also a great way to keep in touch with the entire world.  By simply logging on to your facebook account you can see any major world news such as natural disasters, terror attacks, missing persons, and many other important event. Even though it doesn't particularly pertain to me, but social networking can even help build romantic relationships or help find new friends that have common interests as yourself. All in all  I agree with the negative and positive articles made about social media. I think that it is only going to go expand from here and stay a main priority in most peoples lives , I just hope that they find ways to improve the negative to make it an overall positive experience for all users.

Hello, My name is Valen Burnett. I am from a small town in Arkansas called Magnet Cove. I have lived here most of my life and have lots of close friends and family because of it. I was raised by a single mother who has always been my rock and I am who I am today because of her. After graduating high school I went straight to college, but because of low funds and other things I choose to stay home and go to a small community college. Last may I graduated with my associates of arts degree. From there I realized my passion for children, which lead me to the education program at Henderson state University. Other than school and family I have a few things I enjoy which include: hiking, being on the water, reading, cleaning house, and my favorite cooking!

My Blog is about cooking because it is one of the biggest hobbies I have on an everyday basis. At an early age I would sit and watch my mom cook, and help her when she would let me. At the age of 15 I began to cook things on my own, it was mainly simple recipes such as spaghetti or hamburger helper. I soon realized that cooking was something I really enjoyed doing, and I caught myself finding ways to make the simple recipes I knew better. As the years have passed my joy for cooking just kept growing. Know I spend my days on pinterest finding new recipes to try and cook. I love going to the grocery store and getting fresh ingredients to make my dish taste as delicious as possible. I am starting this blog to share my passion of cooking with others, So I hope you all find it as beneficial and fun as I do!! :)
